A typical day at school and in the office
At most schools, homework circulates as email attachments, parent updates get scattered across WhatsApp groups, and teachers redo the same document for every class. Google Workspace for Education and Classroom bring that into one place.
- Classroom delivers homework, materials, and grades to students in a single stream.
- Shared folders in Drive keep course materials organized by grade and section.
- Meet handles parent meetings and remote classes from the same account.
- Chromebook and Chrome Education Upgrade let you manage classroom devices from one console, instead of teachers wrangling each device by hand.
Education editions and their scope
Google offers four editions for educational institutions. We work out which one fits your school before you apply.
| Edition | Scope | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Education Fundamentals | Core tools such as Classroom, Gmail, Drive, Meet, and Docs | Free for institutions that meet Google's eligibility requirements |
| Education Standard | Added security and management features on top of Fundamentals | Paid |
| Teaching and Learning Upgrade | Additional features for teaching and assessment | Paid, added to Fundamentals or Standard |
| Education Plus | Everything in Standard plus Teaching and Learning Upgrade | Paid |
Google changed its education licensing model between late 2025 and early 2026. We confirm current scope and terms against Google's own pages at the time you apply.
How setup usually goes
- 01
Eligibility and application
The application is submitted with your institution's documents and domain verification. Approval time depends on Google, typically ranging from a few days to a few weeks.
- 02
Account structure and bulk provisioning
Student and teacher accounts are set up by grade, section, and graduation year. For small to mid-sized schools, this step usually takes 1-2 weeks.
- 03
Teacher training and rollout
Full rollout, including hands-on training on Classroom and Drive, is usually completed within 3-6 weeks. Timing depends on the number of teachers and current habits.
