How is migration to Google Cloud done?

Migration is done in four stages. First, an inventory of servers, applications, and databases and their dependencies is gathered. Then the target architecture and cost are designed. Workloads are migrated in groups, first to a test environment and then to production. In the final stage, cost and performance are optimized. A rollback plan is kept ready for each group.

    Servers, applications, databases, and the connections between them are gathered through automated tools and interviews.

  2. 02

    Business and cost analysis

    For each workload, a decision to rehost, replatform, rewrite, or retire, along with a Google Cloud cost estimate.

  3. 03

    Landing zone

    Networking, identity, permissions, logging, and budget structure are set up before migration begins.

  4. 04

    Pilot migration

    A non-critical workload is migrated, measured, and used to refine the process.

  5. 05

    Phased migration

    The remaining workloads are migrated in groups, outside business hours, with a rollback plan.

  6. 06

    Optimization and handover

    Sizing, committed-use discounts, monitoring, and documentation. Followed by managed support.

Google programs that reduce migration cost

Google offers credits and assessment support that cover part of the cost for eligible migration projects (for example, the Rapid Migration and Modernization Program). We check during discovery whether your project qualifies for these programs.

Frequently asked questions

Do systems go down during migration?

For most workloads, downtime is reduced to a matter of minutes through data synchronization and is scheduled outside business hours. The downtime window for each workload is agreed in writing beforehand.

Is moving to the cloud always cheaper?

No. Servers that are migrated and left as-is sometimes end up more expensive. Savings come from correct sizing, committed-use discounts, and shutting down unnecessary systems. That is why we run a cost analysis before migration.

How much does data transfer cost when leaving AWS?

Egress fees vary with data volume. Some cloud providers have announced exemption programs for customers leaving the service entirely. We assess the current terms during the migration plan.
